[Top] City Flier Leaves Post Gets Permit for World Hop Wiley Post, Oklahoma City flier, was en route to Washington today on what may be the first leg of a flight around the world. Harold Gatty, navigator, accompanied the city pilot. F.C. Hall, oil man, is financing the flight in the Winnie Mae, Lockheed- Vega monoplane. Shortly after his departure this morning a telegram was received from Washington notifying him that permit to fly over Russia had been granted. Nominated by Pastor Hall was nominated by Rev. Forney Hutchinson, pastor of St. Luke’s Methodist church. Mr. Hutchinson cited the flight of the Winnie Mae, the plane in which Wiley Post and Harold Gatty flew to a new world girdling record. Hall backed the flight and was the owner of the plane that brought international publicity to the city. Several of those nominated have received more than one nomination. Day has 18, Johnson 11, Colcord 2, Dorsey 2, Bulkley 2 and Mrs. Calvert 2. The number of nominations will not determine the contest winner. |
