[Front Cover] JULES Of Oklahoma November 1988 $2.00 [Inside] Hall of Famers [to the right of main text] 88 A sixty year tradition will be continued this month as eight noteworthy Olahomans whose lives and careers have brought honor to their home state are admitted to the Oklahoma Hall of Fame as part of Statehood Week. The anniversary of Oklahoma’s admission to the Union went largely unnoticed and uncelebrated for the state’s first two decades. An effort led by former Missourians Anna R. Kern in 1927 resulted in the designation of Statehood Day and the creation of the Oklahoma Memorial Association, which was charged with responsibility for Promoting Statehood Day and creating the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, which was inaugurated in 1928. Now known as the Oklahoma Heritage Association, the organization will host some 2,300 guests and a statewide television audience (OETA) for the induction ceremony and banquet on Nov. 12 at the Myriad in OKC. The Hall of Fame is housed on the third floor of the Oklahoma Heritage Center at 201 NW 14th in OKC, which will offer free Admission on Statehood Day, November 16.
